Mark Lichfield read this book from cover to cover. It's a great story with some very clever twists. From the style, Matt is obviously a genuine technologist, which is very refreshing and makes the plot seem all the more plausible. This is an engaging, thought-provoking novel with well-rounded characters, a flowing narrative and an inspired plot. As a big fan of SF novels I found that this novel neither went over my head nor was it too patronising. Browne got the balance right with this book, the first of his proposed trilogy. The apocolyptic imminence expressed is all too real and the race to escape the doomed Earth involves a huge clandestine experiment to discover how a specific group of travellers and their androids will survive the journey to an extra solar planet. Nothing will get in the way of the organisation which is involved in this monumental experiment and the eventual mammoth task of launching the spaceship for real.
